It took a long, but things are starting to get underway at last in this chapter of ToG. It was exceptional. Really exceptional. Whole levels of change ups and power ups as our main characters come to terms with Aguero's condition. With Bam setting off to deter Rak before handling business with Rachel, Andorssi finally gets called out for her lackluster performance on the Hidden Floor. Beta is quick to cite her inability to act during the confrontation between Aguero and Rachel before presenting her with a new task as reparation for her failure. Given the nature of this mishap there appears to be a strong indication that Beta is aware of a method by which to save Aguero's life.
ASIDE: LMAO This chapter suddenly became a 9001/10 for Simmy because Hwa Ryun makes her long awaited return, with reminiscent comments. As it turns out there are no secret developments at this stage of the story. Hwa Ryun is quick to point out that Bam is off to confront Rachel, and in support of his cause both Andorssi and Beta arrive in time to accompany him. It gets out of hand next with SIU shifting our attention back to Maschenny's assault on Jin Sung. Jin Sung displays an exceptional level of defense though he applauded the formidable strength of the weapons blast. The shape and colouration of his defensive ability bare a strong resemblance to Bam's own defensive capabilities - once more highlighting the similarities between the two characters yet again. In what is probably a reference to the recently concluded World Cup, Jin Sung gets off a kick that easily obliterates one of the most fearsome weapons in Zahard's arsenal. Maschenny is quick to step in however and the two face each other down in a confrontation that pits the traditional red and blue auras of other series into rapid focus. In the meantime, Rachel struggles to console herself having lost both the bet and her altered form as Icarus. She stresses once more that her life hasn't been easy and that she acts the way she does because of this history. Fortunately, Rak is quick to pick up the ratings as he once more returns to his original size. ASIDE: The Submerged Fish's gift of shape change is something that we don't really discuss. When we first met Rak he was pretty damn tall, but then he gained the ability to change between a large and small size. SIU, to my knowledge hasn't explicitly stated how Rak is able to do this. Is it because the Submerged Fish used magic? Was it shinsoo manipulation? Was it just an innate ability that Rak had locked inside of him? If so, does that mean the Submerged Fish used magic or shinsoo to allow him to enable Rak to change forms at will? The situation proceeds to get out of hand as White confronts the Little Girl. Eager to make her soul his, White finds himself interrupted midswing by the arrival of Hwa Ryun and Andorssi via Bong Bong. In response to Rak's enlarged size, both Yura and Rachel react rapidly to the sudden attack by readying themselves for the oncoming strikes. Their efforts are wasted as Bam produces a geyser of water to stave off both parties. In closing, Bam finally confronts Rachel and at long last wears an expression that seems to indicate his desire to settle the score against her. With SIU stating that we need to watch the shifting dynamics between the cast, and this episodes purpose as a preparatory spell in anticipation of the coming episode. ASIDE: SIU actually addresses a theory that many readers have been holding to in regards to Rachel. Given the extent of her villainy some readers believed that SIU would eventually allow her to redeem herself. After all, Rachel gave Bam the push he needed in order to begin climbing the Tower. SIU now establishes that he is disinclined to explain the hard motivations behind his villains, and professes to avoiding the stereotype of good and evil moralities. The battle between Maschenny and Ha Jin Sung continues to grow more explosive this chapter, but SIU now reveals that both characters are fighting half-heartedly. One can only imagine the levels of power these two characters can achieve were they to get serious. Whether Maschenny's other motivations play a role in down playing her overall combat abilities against Jin Sung remains to be elaborated upon. |
